The Smashing Pumpkins: Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness

Smashing Pumpkins: Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness
Formate: Deluxe Edition, Box Set, CD+DVD
Released: 2012
Label: Virgin Records

Some record just do not get old. There was The White Album by Beatles in the 60s, Physical Graffiti from Led Zeppelin in the 70s, The Pink Floyd’s The Wall in the 80s… and what comes next in the 90s? No doubt, it is the Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness by Billy Corgan!

For some people, the Smashing Pumpkins are not what they used to be anymore. Once a  stadium band, it must perform in much smaller spaces nowadays. In case of Billy Corgan´s super ego, it certainly is a cleansing treatment – his last year´s album Oceania is a pearl of the post rock scene and it is a follow up of the most revolutionary milestone of the end of the 20th century, Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness.
Dark crystal melodies and dangerous riffs come to life in a five-disk version, where a genial production of Butch Givo becomes way more concrete – if you study carefully all demos of originally double-disc album. Neverending sadness is present in its crudest form, which cannot be changed even by remastering.
Shortly, sixty four bonus songs just remind a heavy high tide with strong sand layers, vitality and magic flows of music themes.
