Celebrating 20 years of French Film Festival!

The jubilee will be celebrated by 120-year-old restored short films of the Lumiér brothers or by a pre-premier of Fearful, a movie about the life of one of the most famous French cinematographers – Jean-Luc Godard. The festival will be held from 22nd to 29th of September in Prague, Brno, Hradec Králové, Ostrava and České Budějovice.

In the pre-premier you will have a chance to see movies featured at this year´s film festivals, such as animated movie My Life as a Zucchini, that cheered the audience at Berlinale; or few favorites of the Cannes Film Festival. These include, for example, the last movie of Michael Haneke – Happy end – which is a probe into a life of European family with the divine Jean-Louis Trintignan and Isabelle Hupert in the leading roles. The female stars will be also seen in psychological drama Ismael´s Ghost with Marion Cotillard and Charlotte Gainsbourg, who play a current girfriend and ex-lover of Mathieu Amalric; or the latest movie by Claire Denis – Let the Sunshine In – with Juliette Binoche and Gérard Depardieu.
From Cannes the festival brought another attractive biographical films – Gauguin, with always graceful Vincent Cassel in a role of brilliant aging painter or Rodin by Jacques Doillon, in which Vincent Lindon played a sculptor to whom the creation seems to be a deeply sexual experience. The festival was be opened with Michael Hazanavicius´ Horrified, based on the memoris of the writer and actor Anna Wiazemská, the first of Godard´ wifes. The film´ giant is played by Louis Garrell, who had become famous several decades ago with a cult movie The Dreamers with Eva Green and Michael Pitt.
Among the other sections, you will find a retrospective of Jean-Pierr Melivill´s work, whose screening were the first in the career of famous actors such as Alain Delon or Jean-Paul Belmondo. Another section includes an official selection of Cannes´ movies screended between 2011 and 2016, where you can catch up with the past few years with movies like Blue Is the Warmest Color, Love, Two Days, One Night or Saint Laurent.
